Safety Stop

From Nicholas McLaren, for About.com

Definition: At the end of every dive it is recommended that a diver make a stop at 15 feet / 5 meters for 3 minutes. This stop is not mandatory and is called a safety stop as it is included for additional safety. It is not necessary to stay still during the stop and it can be incorporated into the dive if possible.
