Definition: An inflatable tube attached to a line which is used to mark a diver's position under the water. The tube can be inflated orally, with an alternate air source, or with a low pressure inflator. Surface Marker Buoys are usually bright orange or another bright color and are often marked with dive flags or descriptive text such as 'Diver Below'. Surface Marker Buoys are normally over 3 feet / 1 meter in length.
